Happy Rambler Saratoga Spa Golf Course Print E-mail

What a gem we have in the Saratoga Spa Golf Course!

This place is awesome. Located behind the Gideon Putnam in the heart of the Saratoga State Park it has so much to offer residents and visitors.  It’s a great golf course, minutes from downtown or from 87 if your coming from out of town, affordable—$29 for 18 holes weekdays and evenings, $32 on weekends, great practice facility with natural grass, excellent restaurant (Catherines in the Park) and they’re committed to 4 ½ hour rounds!

An excellent golfer might find it a little less than challenging.  There is a lack of hazards on the course (unless you take into account the balls flying in from other fairways when I’m on the course).  But the course offers a total of  5 different tee boxes caterting to all levels of play.   So while there might not be a lot of places for the good golfer to get into trouble the challenge from the blue or god forbid the black tees is very very real.

From the black tees the course is a whopping 7140 yards—I know people that couldn’t walk that distance in 4 ½ hours.  From those tees the course has a slope of 130 and a rating of 74.4.  That’s enough golf for any player.   The blues are know walk in the park (bad pun but I had to do it)  measuring in at 6709 yards (128/72.2).

I’ve played a few times already this year and the condition is excellent right now.  The course is even good enough to regularly attract Joe Lucas, Head Groundskeeper at Saratoga National. They must be doing something right!

In addition to the championship course there is a par 29 executive course which plays fast and is great for working on the short game or for beginners.
