Tap Dance Workshops for All Ages at the Dance Museum’s School of the Arts
Saratoga Springs - The School of the Arts at the National Museum of Dance is offering an exciting nine-week tap dance workshop taught by professional tap dancer Rebecca Kim, beginning Sunday, April 11th. There are classes for children, teens and adults, with a full session costing $90.00. Adult & Teens Beginning Tap (12:15pm - 1:15pm)
This class is perfect for the beginning student with little to no experience in tap. By the end of the session, students will have learned to be confident in tapping Leonard Reed's famous Shim Sham Shimmy! Be prepared to work hard, and most of all, have fun!
Children's Movement for Musical Theatre & Sports 2nd-4th graders (1:15pm - 2:00pm)
Youngsters of all abilities will enjoy a high energy dance class full of dance warm-ups, locomotor movement and combinations. Along with learning body isolations and alignment, they will also develop an understanding of rhythm and improve spatial awareness. Whether your child enjoys sports, dance, karate, or many other activities, they will improve their flexibility, agility and strength. Dancers will learn a choreographed piece that combines a wide range of movements.
Adult & Teens Elementary and Intermediate Tap (2:00pm-3:00pm)
This class is for the student who has taken a beginning tap class and has knowledge of the basic time steps (singles, doubles, and triples). Student must also have a strong foundation of the basic tap steps. We will be working on many styles of tap dance from rhythm tap to classic musical theatre. We will also learn repertory from a famous Broadway musical! This class will be a lot of fun. Be prepared to work hard, improve your dance skills and have a great time (along with a good sweat).
Dress code for all classes: Black leotards/Black T-shirts, Black Jazz Pants/Black Sweat Pants, (Children: Jazz Shoes), Tap Shoes. Hair Pulled back.
Rebecca Kim has studied tap with several world renowned dancers including Barbara Duffy, Lisa Hopkins, Alan Onickel and Josh Hilberman. She has performed many styles of tap with professional dance companies throughout the United States including Tapestry Dance Company in Austin, TX and the Peggy Spina Tap Company in New York City. Also, Rebecca has danced at The Tavern on the Green in New York City and has had her own dance studio in Toledo, OH. Rebecca received her B.A. from Mount Holyoke College and her M.A. from Columbia University in NY.
The School of the Arts is a not–for- profit organization with a focus on teaching professional quality dance technique within a low-pressure environment. Under the auspices of SPAC, and an extension of The National Museum of Dance, the SOA mission is to foster the study and appreciation of dance.
