Poetry Open Mic With Featured Reader John Survivor Blake
Open Mic readers sign up at 7 PM. Read one long poem (more than 1 page), or
two short poems. All styles and levels of experience welcome. Excessive
profanity discouraged.
John Survivor Blake emerged from the Baruch Projects on the lower east side of Manhattan. He combines the exciting spoken-word genre with the traditional literary art of technical writing.
He's performed at universities and rehabilitation centers; published in In The Fray and Beyond Race magazines; had poems accepted to the Slam in Your Face anthology of the NYC slam scene; been a member of the slam team that took 3rd in the 2007 National Poetry Slam; and has won slams in Dallas, Berkeley, Philadelphia, NYC, Jersey, and Arizona. He has performed in over 100 cities.
