The Saratoga Race Course is the Oldest Horseracing track in the country. From the tradition of Seabiscuit to the excitement of Funny Cide, the best horses in the world spend the summer at Saratoga. So why shouldn't you?

Here is my basic guide to the Saratoga Race Course. Its a great place to have a great time, but there are some things you should know. One, its gets hot in Saratoga, so bring some water or beverages or prepare to pay 6 or more dollars for a quench. Two, anyone is allowed to bring coolers into the track, with the exception of glass containers, anything is allowed. So bring some beers, bring some steaks or bring some water, its up to you.

Below are some of the basic stats for the Saratoga Race Course, use them at your discretion.  

The Basics:

·       Saratoga Race Course is a 350-acre racetrack located in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The 2007 meeting will be 36 days long from Wednesday, July 25 to Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3.

·       Saratoga is the home of the 138th Running of the Travers Stakes on Aug. 25, 2007.

·       Post Times are 1 p.m. Eastern (except Travers Day Aug. 25, 12:30 p.m. Eastern).

·        Saratoga Race Course is Closed Tuesdays.

 

The Course:

·        Main Course: 1 1/8 Mile

·        Turf Course: 1 Mile

·        Steeplechase/Inner Turf Course: 7/8 Mile

·        Attendance Capacity: 50,000

·        Trackside Dining: 2,200

·        Total Seating Capacity: 18,000, including picnic tables and benches.

 

Parking and Admission:

·        Trackside parking: $10. Gates open at 6:45 a.m.
(Refunds available until 10 a.m. No refunds on Travers Day, Saturday, Aug. 25, 2006.)

·        General Parking: Free
Oklahoma Preferred Parking: $5. Gates open at 9 a.m.

·        Handicapped parking available at Clubhouse and Grandstand. Applicable fees apply.

·        Grandstand Admission: $3

·        Clubhouse Admission: $5

·        Travers Day: Grandstand $5; Clubhouse $10

·        Reserved seating sold separately.

·        Children under age 12 are admitted free with parent or guardian.

 

Dress Code:

·        Elegant Attire is a Tradition at Saratoga Race Course. Ladies and Gentlemen who Honor this Tradition are Always Appreciated.

·        Paddock Dress Code
No Shorts or Abbreviated Wear
Gentlemen are required to wear collared shirts

·        Clubhouse Dress Code
The Paddock Tent, The Porch, Club Terrace & Carousel Restaurant
Proper Attire Required at Management's Discretion. No-short-shorts, cut-off shorts or abbreviated wear permitted. Gentlemen: No Tank Tops

·        Turf Terrace Dining Room & Box Area Dress Code
Gentlemen: Suits or Sports Jackets Required
Ladies: Dresses, Skirts or Pant Suits
No Jeans, Shorts or Abbreviated Wear permitted.

·        At The Rail Pavilion Dress Code
Neat Casual Attire
No Jeans or Shorts Permitted
Gentlemen: Collared Shirts Required
Management reserves the right to use its discretion to determine Neat Casual Attire.

·        Luxury Suites Dress Code Proper Attire Required at Management's Discretion
No abbreviated wear permitted.
Gentlemen: No Tank Tops
