Saratoga Fall Festival 2008The Saratoga Springs Downtown Business Association presents the Seventh Annual Fall Festival in downtown Saratoga Springs Saturday, October 25, 2008 - Sunday, October 26, 2008. Please check back for more details as we plan them.

Last Years Event Recap:

Beginning on Saturday at 10:00 there will be an official ribbon cutting at the Farmer’s Market, High Rock Avenue, with the Fall Festival Chairman Andy Brindisi and the Honorable Mayor Valerie Keehn.  The winner of the “Guess the Weight of the Giant Pumpkin” contest will be decided.

Free events include  “Apple Baseball” from 10-noon at Global Fitness Parking Lot, 165 High Rock Avenue; at 11 AM, a Halloween Kids Dance is being held at the Global Fitness Gym and 11 AM to 1:30 PM, free Dream Pony rides and a petting zoo are at the Red Spring at High Rock Avenue.

Star 101.3 has a live broadcast all day, Mickey Mouse, Blues Clues, Miss Piggy and Twinkle, The Star 101.3 Bear will all be on Broadway.  There are free Spooky Trolley Rides, a haunted house at Doc’s Steakhouse, 63 Putnam Street, Halloween fun with Beads at Saratoga Beads, 80 Henry Street (there is a small charge for the beads).  From noon to 2 PM, Mr. and Mrs. Bill at G. Willikers, 461 Broadway; noon to 3 PM, Big Medicine plays at the Grey Gelding; noon to 4 PM, carnival Games on Broadway at Impressions, 368 Broadway, Crafters Gallery at 427 Broadway and Grey Gelding, 423 Broadway.  Play the “Fishing for Fun” game at Brindisi’s Restaurant, 390 Broadway, decorate cupcakes at Doc’s Steakhouse, 63 Putnam Street.  From noon to 4, there are fun “Pumpkin Rolling Races” on Caroline Street. Daryl Baldwin, the Balloon Guy is at Borders from 1-3 PM; from 1 PM to 4 PM, get your portraits taken at Image Photo for a small fee, now located at 63 Putnam Street; from 2PM – 4PM, bring the kids for Face Painting with Mother Goose at the Children’s Museum, 69 Caroline St.

On Beekman Street, from 10 AM to 2 PM, there is an Open House with cookies from Bread Basket Bakery at Heather Bohm-Tallman Photography located at the corner of Beekman and Ash Streets. From noon to 4 PM, Hot Chocolate and Cinnamon Sticks are served at Natasha Lafayette Pilates Studio, 55 Beekman Street. Trick or Treating is offered from noon to 4 both on Beekman Street and on Broadway in downtown Saratoga. Pumpkin Flower Arranging is taught from 1 PM to 3 PM at Rena’s Fine Flowers, located at the corner of Beekman and Ash St.  From 2 PM to 4 PM, Pumpkin Painting for Kids is offered at Artworx, 79 Beekman Street.

Character Education Exhibits, done by our local school kids, appear from 1 PM to 3 PM. “Cheetah Challenge” in Congress Park, “Have-A-Heart Cares” and “Treat Handout” in front of Granite Palace, “Voter Registration Drive” at the Visitor Center, “Respect” and Jr. Achievement inside Borders, “Family Fun Folk Dance” in front of City Hall & “Trustworthiness” in front of Adirondack Trust Company Bank.  Some will repeat on Sunday.

Saratoga Eagle will once again sponsor the “Howl at the Moon” costume contest for adults on Saturday night at local downtown bars and taverns.  Buzz 105.7 has a live broadcast.

Sunday, many of the events are the same as Saturday (check the schedule). In addition, from 10 AM to 6 PM there is a “Fashion Show with Philippe Bevan” in Lillian’s parking lot, which will be closed to cars during the event. At 10 AM, the event opens with a performance by the Saratoga Springs Youth Orchestra; at 11 AM is the Shoe Depot Kids Fashion Show; 11:15, “Beauty and the Beast” Fashion Show by Sloppy Kisses; 11:45, Rockabella Fashion Show; 12:00 is a Billy Joel Tribute.  At 1 PM, Saratoga Saddlery Fashion Show; 1:15, Apricot Lane Fashion Show; 1:30, Haute Mama Fashion Show; 1:45, Jay Graham Band; 2:45, Violets Fashion Show; 3 PM, Pink Paddock Fashion Show; 3:15, Saratoga Shoe Depot Fashion Show; 3:30, The Capital Zen Band; 4:30, “Saratoga City of Fashion” (all retailers together) and at 5 PM, the Only Now Existing Band. Alyson Clark is the Make up artist and Philippe Bevan and his team are the hairstylists for the fashion show.

From 11 AM to 3 PM Sunday, “Cooking with Kids,” by Mike Russo is at the Bread Basket Bakery, 65 Spring Street. From 12 to 4 PM, bring the kids to a “Bounce Around” behind the Adirondack Trust Company at the corner of Church and Woodlawn Ave.  From 12 to 4 PM, fun, free pumpkin Decorating at Putnam Market, 435 Broadway.  From 1 PM to 3 PM, “PJ The Face Painter” is at Brindisi’s Restaurant, 390 Broadway; get sticky with “Cotton Candy Sculpting,” next door at Circus Café, 392 Broadway.

From 1 PM to 3 PM Sunday only, “Fun with Stones and Bones” at the Gideon Putnam Burial Ground, (the entrances are behind Legends on Congress St. or on South Franklin St.).  This event features “Rhyming Scavenger Hunt: How many of Saratoga’s Dear Departed can you find?” “Make Your Mark: Try your hand at Stone Carving the Old Fashioned Way” and “Storytelling with Kate Dudding Slightly Scary Stories with Audience Participation” from 1:15 to 1:45, the again 2:00-2:30.

From 1 PM to 3 PM there will be refreshments at Mimosa Gallery at 90C Beekman Street, Pumpkin Flower arranging at Rena’s Fine Flowers again and Pumpkin Painting at Artworx.

The finale is a children’s costume parade with Mayor Keene at 4 PM beginning at Stockade Oriental Imports, 543 Broadway (across from the Saratoga Hotel & the City Center).  After the children in costume gather with their parents, the parade will proceed down Broadway to the carousel in Congress Park where there will be free rides for 200 children.

The musical “Nunsense” is being performed both days at the Dee Sarno Theater in the Saratoga Co. Arts Center 2 PM and 7:30 PM Saturday and again at 7:30 on Sunday.
