The 2010 Travers Festival will take place from Friday, August 20th through Sunday, August 29th. The festival is a celebration of one of the oldest stakes races in the country and features live music, parties and giveaways all across town. The 141st running of America's Mid-Summer Derby, The Shadwell Travers Stakes, will take place on Saturday, August 28th.
Travers Day at Saratoga Race Course starts early with the gates opening at 7am and a special first post time of 11:35 am. The $1 million Travers Stakes will go off near 6pm as the the top 3 year olds in the country come around the stretch at Saratoga in one of the most historic races in the country.
The race is named for the first president of Saratoga Race Course, Mr. William R. Travers, who won its inaugural running in 1864, with a horse called Kentucky
The Travers day undercard will include the Grade 1 King's Bishop for three-year-old sprinters at seven furlongs; the Grade 1 Ballerina for fillies and mares at seven furlongs; the Grade 2 Ballston Spa for fillies and mares at a mile and a sixteenth on the turf; and the Grade 3 Victory Ride for three-year-old fillies at six furlongs.
