Saratoga Unofficial: A Guide for Skidmore Students and Visitors
Graduation Weekend (May 21-23) is just around the corner! How do you plan on spending it with your family? Check out TheSaratogaLife.com’s suggestions of everything you need to know- hotel recommendations, breakfast and dinner options, and other fun activities to do with the entire family. Read on.
If your parents haven’t already decided where they’re going to stay, consult our “Skidmore Hotel Picks”- a great list of hotels and bed and breakfasts sure to satisfy the needs of every Saratoga visitor.
Friday:
During the day, Skidmore’s Tang Museum will be showing the works of Fred Tomaselli, Havana-based collective Los Carpinteros, and Senior Studio Art Majors’ Senior Thesis Exhibits from 10am-5pm. Also come enjoy some of Skidmore’s other hosted events, the Senior Family Project Brick Ceremony at 3:30 pm, President’s Reception at 4:30-6:30 pm, and the Honors Forum Reception from 6 -7:30 pm.
For a casual dinner the night before Graduation, consider our “Cheap Eats: Saratoga” article. Also, other favorites include: Cantina, Hattie’s, Circus Cafe, The Grey Gelding, and The Springwater Inn.
Saturday:
The big day has arrived! The College will be hosting breakfast at the Murray Aikins Dining Hall for all families and friends from 8-10:30 am. If you want to venture off campus for food, be sure to try Beverly’s, Compton’s, The Saratoga Diner, Uncommon Grounds, or Country Corner Café.
Graduation begins promptly at 11am at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC).

Sunday:
While the weekend is winding down, there are still tons of fun things to see and do. Consider a stroll through beautiful Congress Park and go on the Carousel or sip from the historic springs. Families with younger children should be sure to visit Saratoga’s Children Museum on Caroline Street.
Continue your walk through Congress Park to Broadway and visit some of Saratoga’s wonderful specialty shops- Saratoga Guitar: the greatest selection of new and used guitars in town, Dawgdom: unique novelties and creative gifts for your favorite canine, and Impressions: Saratoga souvenirs and other memorabilia.
