MANY CHANCES TO RUN FOR GREAT CAUSES

Saratoga Springs residents and visitors are an active and generous group, and nothing indicates that fact more than the number of great road races benefiting worthy causes which are held in and around the Spa City each year.  Summer 2011 promises many opportunites to run in 5Ks, a 4 mile race, and even a half marathon!   These races are run through the picturesque streets and parks of Saratoga Springs and its neighboring communities, and local residents often stand in front of their homes to cheer the runners on.  Click the links below to find out more about the following races.  See you at the Finish Line!

Turning Point 5K - July 16, 2011 - This 5K race, benefiting the Schuylerville High School Cross Country Team, will be held in the beautiful and historic Saratoga Spa State Park.

Silks and Satins - July 23, 2011 - This 5K race starts on East Avenue in the shadow of the Oklahoma Training track where more than 1,200 runners and 200 Volunteers get their inspiration to run and work the race by watching beautiful thoroughbreds train on the famous track.  The course winds through the beautiful  streets of the east side of Saratoga Springs, going past stately 19th and early 20th century homes as well as other Saratoga landmarks.  All proceeds benefit Special Olympics New York Athletes.    NOTE:  Volunteers needed - click on their Facebook page to help. 

Jailhouse Rock 5K - August 13, 2011 - this race in Ballston Spa goes past the County Correctional facility - hence the name!   

The second Annual Five for FiVe – September 10, 2011 – This 5K race held in the Saratoga Spa State Park is run in the memory of Louis Butts, a one year old child who lost his battle with mucopolysaccharide (MPS) and all proceeds will go to the National MPS society.   

Malta BPA 5K – September 10, 2011 – The Malta Business and Professional Association will be holding a 5K in Malta at the Hudson Valley Community College Extension Center TEC-SMART location.   

Get Your Rear in Gear 5K run/walk – September 17, 2011 – Also held at the Saratoga Spa State Park, this run allows you to form teams and/or raise funds for the fight against colon and rectal cancer.   

Fifth Annual Trooper Joseph Longobardo 5K Walk Run – September 18, 2011 - Trooper Joseph Longobardo was killed in the line of duty September 3, 2006. He was a member of the National Guard, served as a member of the United Stated Marine Corps and had served with the New York State Police for 8 years.  This race in his honor will be held in the Saratoga Spa State Park.   

The Saratoga Palio Half Marathon & 5K Run/Walk – September 18, 2011 – this race is officially titled the Saratoga Palio Melanie Merola O'Donnell Memorial Race, in honor of a local resident who gave her life to helping others, most notably in both volunteer and staff roles with the National Organization for Victim Assistance and the Capital Area Crisis Response Team in Washington, D.C., with which she played a instrumental role in helping victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.  It is run through the heart of Saratoga Springs.
